We are a small studio with an outsized obsession. Every vehicle that enters our space is treated as if it belongs to us.
Marcus Hale
Founder & Lead Detailer
"If it's worth driving, it's worth protecting."
Marcus Hale started detailing cars out of his parents' driveway at sixteen years old — not because he needed the money, but because he genuinely couldn't stand seeing a beautiful car diminished by neglect. By the time he was nineteen, he had a waiting list. By twenty-three, he had a studio. What began as a weekend obsession became something he couldn't walk away from, and in 2016, Obsidian Detail Co. was born.
The name came from the material — volcanic glass, formed under immense pressure, impossibly smooth, impossibly dark, and nearly indestructible. It's what Marcus wanted every car to look like when it left his hands. The early years were humbling. Long hours, relentless research, and more polishing compound than he cares to remember. But every car that left the studio was better than the last, and word spread. Seattle's automotive community is small and exacting — they notice when something is done right.
Today, Obsidian Detail Co. is a tight, intentional operation. We're not trying to be the biggest studio in the Pacific Northwest — we're trying to be the best one. We limit our appointments deliberately so that every vehicle receives the full attention it deserves. Our clients range from weekend enthusiast drivers to collectors with seven-figure garages, and we approach every job exactly the same way: with complete focus, premium products, and the kind of care that only comes from people who are genuinely obsessed with what they do.

Every vehicle goes through the same five-stage process — no vehicle skips a step regardless of its condition or the service booked.
We begin with a thorough walk-around under controlled lighting, measuring paint depth, identifying defects, and documenting the vehicle's current condition. This informs every decision that follows and ensures there are no surprises.
A full decontamination wash removes surface dirt, embedded iron particles, and bonded contaminants using pH-neutral chemicals and a clay bar treatment. The goal is a completely clean surface — free of anything that might interfere with the work ahead.
Working panel by panel under specialized lighting, we use professional machine polishers with the appropriate compounds and pads to remove defects and restore clarity. This stage is what separates a great detail from an average one — it's where the real work happens.
With paint in its best possible state, we apply the chosen protection — whether that's ceramic coating, wax, sealant, or PPF. We work in a climate-controlled environment and follow strict manufacturer application protocols to ensure maximum adhesion and durability.
Before your vehicle is returned, every panel is inspected again under multiple lighting conditions. Windows are cleaned, tires are dressed, and the interior is freshened. We won't hand back keys until we'd be proud to drive it ourselves — and we mean that without exception.
Marcus has spent over a decade mastering every aspect of paint correction and ceramic coating. His hands have touched every vehicle that's passed through Obsidian, and he intends to keep it that way. He holds certifications from CARPRO and Gyeon, and regularly trains with top industry names across the US.
Jordan joined Obsidian in 2019 and quickly became the studio's go-to for interior restoration. She brings a meticulous nature and a background in upholstery repair that allows her to tackle leather, fabric, and trim conditions that other detailers decline. Her attention to detail in the cabin is genuinely unmatched.
